现行较罕见姓氏。分布颇广：今北京、四川之成都、山西之雁北地区均有。汉族傈僳族姓氏。《中文大字典》引《姓苑》收载；《姓氏考略》注其源：

1、其注引《姓考》云：“楚熊严子伯霜之后。”此当以名为氏，系出芈姓。望出江陵。

2、又注：“西羌帅有贵霜王，或其后以为氏。”

3、今傈僳族之霜姓，则出自在“霓扒”。本氏族名，汉意为霜氏族，或即以其汉意而为“霜”氏。见《中国人的姓名·傈僳族》。
